If one of your fitness goals is to lose a few pounds of fat you are not the only one! Most exercisers are in “it” to lose “it” and “gaining” is not something they are particularly fond of doing. While most gym goers know the benefits of strength training, few know that gaining muscle will actually help them LOSE fat. Gaining muscle while losing fat should be your ultimate goal. Some say doing both at the same time is impossible, while others claim steroids is the only way to achieve these results. I am here to tell you it is not impossible!
The basis of strength training is the breaking down of your muscle fibers. When you perform muscle building exercises, your muscles get damaged. The repair/rebuilding process is what increases your metabolism. But how do you gain muscle without gaining weight? Maintaining a moderate calorie diet is important. If you are going to lose body weight, simply put, you need to take in less calories than you use. That is the foundation for weight loss. Performing a strength training routine 2 to 3 times a week is important to maintain a healthy weight, because it stops your body from turning your “extra” calories into storage (fat). Your body does most of its repair work while you sleep so a proper strength training routine will increase your metabolism throughout the day and even at night. That means you will be burning fat while you sleep! If only everything was that easy!
